Our story

Where this started, and where it could go

Piano for Pets is a student-founded initiative. It is not a registered nonprofit. Here’s the longer story.

    How Piano for Pets Began

I’ve been a piano student for about nine years, and I’ve grown up with dogs. For a long time those were two separate parts of my life: hours at the keyboard, and time with my two dogs at home.

Piano for Pets started with a simple question: could the music I’ve spent years learning do something for animals, too?

From PetLink Match to Piano for Pets

I also founded PetLink Match, a platform that helps people discover adoptable pets. Piano for Pets is another way of supporting animals: instead of helping people find pets, it brings people together through music to support the organizations that care for them.

    Why Student Musicians?

Students spend years practicing for performances that often last only a few minutes. Those performances can do more. When students play for a cause, a recital becomes a way to contribute to their community.

    Partnership With Gigi’s

Piano for Pets is currently working with Gigi’s, an animal adoption organization in Columbus, Ohio. Gigi’s is our primary animal welfare partner and the beneficiary of our fundraising. We are separate organizations working together. Our first shared step is Gigi’s Walk the Dog event at Columbus Commons.

    The Bigger Vision

The long-term goal is a repeatable model: student musicians performing at events that support animal shelters and rescue organizations, wherever there are students willing to play. We’re at the beginning, and we’d like to grow carefully.
